Zambia Launches Global Fund Grant Cycle 8 Funding Request Writing Retreat to Strengthen the National Health Response

Zambia has officially commenced the Global Fund Grant Cycle 8 (GC8) Funding Request Writing process, a critical national process aimed at securing resources to support HIV, Tuberculosis (TB), and Malaria programmes for the 2027–2029 implementation period.

The writing retreat was officially opened on 12 May 2026 by the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) Oversight Chairperson, Ms Annie Sampa.

Under Grant Cycle 8, Zambia has been allocated a total of USD 315,059,022, distributed as follows:

– HIV: USD 229,074,842

– Tuberculosis: USD 18,430,630

– Malaria: USD 67,553,550

The first writing retreat brought together national and sub-national staff from the Ministry of Health, the National HIV/AIDS/STI/TB Council (NAC), representatives from the United Nations family, the United States Government (USG), and Civil Society Organizations at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.

Grant Cycle 8 remains committed to advancing the goal of ending HIV, TB, and Malaria as public health threats, while investing in resilient and sustainable health systems that improve overall health outcomes.

In the context of constrained global financing, countries are expected to optimize the use of all available resources through rigorous programme prioritization. With countries and communities taking the lead, success will depend on a strong focus on efficiency and effectiveness, making difficult but necessary trade-offs, addressing barriers to life-saving services for the most vulnerable populations, and embracing innovation and adaptation.

Zambia is expected to submit its final Funding Request to the Global Fund by 27 July 2026.
