Guidelines for Prevention, Diagnosis, Care and Treatment of Viral Hepatitis Infection (2025)

The Ministry of Health has launched the 2025 Guidelines for Prevention, Diagnosis, Care and Treatment of Viral Hepatitis Infection, a comprehensive resource designed to strengthen Zambia’s response to viral hepatitis. Developed with support from the National HIV/AIDS/STI/TB Council (NAC) and other health sector partners, the guidelines provide healthcare workers with up-to-date, evidence-based recommendations on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of Hepatitis A, B, C, D and E infections. They align with the latest World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations and Zambia’s commitment to eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.

The document emphasizes early detection, expanded access to testing and treatment, prevention of mother-to-child transmission, vaccination, and integrated hepatitis services to improve patient outcomes across the country. It serves as an essential reference for clinicians, programme managers, public health professionals, and other stakeholders working to reduce the burden of viral hepatitis and improve the health of all Zambians.
