The Ministry of Health has launched the 2025 Guidelines for Prevention, Diagnosis, Care and Treatment of Viral Hepatitis Infection, a comprehensive resource designed to strengthen Zambia’s response to viral hepatitis. Developed with support from the National HIV/AIDS/STI/TB Council (NAC) and other health sector partners, the guidelines provide healthcare workers with up-to-date, evidence-based recommendations on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of Hepatitis A, B, C, D and E infections. They align with the latest World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations and Zambia’s commitment to eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.
The document emphasizes early detection, expanded access to testing and treatment, prevention of mother-to-child transmission, vaccination, and integrated hepatitis services to improve patient outcomes across the country.
