NAC Q3 2026: Strengthening Zambia’s HIV Response
The National HIV/AIDS/STI/TB Council (NAC) made significant strides in strengthening Zambia’s multisectoral HIV response during the third quarter of 2026.
Key highlights included the launch of the 2025 HIV Spectrum Estimates, which showed continued progress in reducing new HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths, while highlighting the need for intensified prevention efforts.
NAC also strengthened its focus on young people, condom programming, HIV self-testing and innovative prevention options, including long-acting injectable PrEP. With young people aged 15–24 accounting for 37% of new HIV infections, youth-responsive prevention remains a major priority.
Other key activities included cross-border health collaboration with Malawi and Mozambique, community HIV/STI/TB awareness, the review of Zambia’s HIV testing approaches, and efforts to address the rising burden of syphilis.
Looking ahead, NAC has begun consultations to shape the 2027–2031 National HIV & AIDS Strategic Framework, focusing on sustainable financing, stronger prevention and the needs of adolescents and young people.
Together, these efforts demonstrate NAC’s continued commitment to protecting Zambia’s gains and building a sustainable, resilient and people-centred HIV response.
