A latest generation female condom dubbed ‘maximum Diva Woman’s Condom’ has been launched on the market with added usage attractions of comfort.

The ‘Diva’ is made is made from non-latex, transparent polyurethane film, far much softer and thinner than other condoms before it giving it the effect of  increased sensation for both partners. The socially marketed product was officially launched by the Government of the Republic of Zambian March 19 in Lusaka through Gender Deputy Minister Dorothy Kazunga.

The ‘Diva’ offers non-hormonal protection against unintended pregnancy and STIs, including HIV and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Its new and improved design allows for a more secure fit that is comfortable to wear and easy to insert and remove. It is also safe with no known clinical risks.

Ms Kazunga hailed the ‘Diva’ describing it as an empowerment tool for women who possess limited bargaining power on sexuality matters.

“Therefore, with the recognition that gender-based inequalities and disempowerment are a major force driving the epidemic, the development of prevention methods over which women have some control has become imperative, “says Ms Kazunga.

Society for Family Health (SFH) which is promoting the Maximum Diva Woman’s Condom, is optimistic that the added features of the product will act as an incentive to spur demand of the female condom. SFH Deputy Executive Director Gina Smith says the condom can be used by any women who prefers; a non-hormonal method that they can control, one off contraception method, dual protection from unplanned pregnancies and STIs including HIV as well as one minimising time spent with a health provider.

National HIV/AIDS/STI/TB Council (NAC) Director General Jabbin Mulwanda sees the ‘Diva’ as a positive innovation contributing to the national goal of averting new HIV infections as articulated in the 2014-2016 National HIV and AIDS Strategic Framework (NASF.)

The ‘Diva’ is going for only K10 and is available in all leading chemists across the country.
