The National HIV/AIDS/STI/TB Council (NAC) has appointed its Director of Programmes Mr Fortune Chibamba as Director General on an interim basis. NAC Chairperson Dr George Tembo disclosed the development this morning, 25th August 2017, in Lusaka when he met both head office based and provincial secretariat staff.

Dr Tembo seized the opportunity to seek a better understanding of the working conditions and challenges faced by staff at sub national structures. Top on the list of challenges was lack of transport and inadequate funding which adversely hamper smooth operations.

Dr Tembo urged staff at both national and sub national levels to use the National HIV/AIDS/STI/TB Council Act No. 10 of 2002 as their guide in discharging their work which clearly sets them apart from other institutions such as Ministry of Health functions.

He called for equitable treatment of all staff and for the management to ensure that sub national structures receive the same level of support as the one extended to the head office.

He applauded staff for exhibiting commitment to their respective roles adding that he did not have any doubts that they would offer befitting support to Mr Chibamba during the time he would act as Chief Executive Officer.

This report has been compiled by NAC Communications Unit.
