Today the 22nd of October 2020, the National HIV/AIDS/STI/TB Council had the honour of presenting awards on four winners of the U-Report Hoodie Competition which saw a total cash prize of K2, 600.00 being given out.
This is part of NAC’s continued drive to mobilise more adolescents and young people to join the U-Report, an SMS based interactive forum providing all adolescent related information leading to more access to services.
The first winner, Patience Mingochi walked away with a cash prize of K1, 000.00, U-Report T-Shirt and a laptop bag, the second winner was Peter Banda who received a cash prize of K600.00, U-Report T-Shirt and a laptop bag, the third winner was Chikabu Mukuka who received K500.00 cash and a T-Shirt and the fourth winner was Taru Joseph Lombe who also walked away with K500.00 and a T-Shirt.
Although an estimated 4.8 million Zambians are young people between the ages 15-19 and between 20-35, only 199,202 are currently subscribed to the U-Report leaving a huge number of 4,610,657 unregistered to the platform.
The hoodie competition was therefore aimed at recruiting more U-Reporters by giving an incentive to adolescents to design messages promoting the benefits of U-Report to their peers to motivate them to join the platform.
The U-Report is a source of information on a variety of sexual and reproductive health and rights topics giving users the opportunity to ask questions on issues that are not adequately explained in the auto-generated SMSs.
Since its inception in 2012, the U-Report has improved the HIV response among adolescents and youths. It has continuously established access to personalised and emergency HIV, AIDS, STI and sexual and reproductive health information to young people through SMS, real time feedback and referrals.
