Dr. Joshua H.K. Banda represents the faith-based constituency at the CCM. He is Presiding Bishop for the Pentecostal Assemblies of God Zambia, Overseer & Senior Pastor of Northmead Assembly of God in Lusaka and President of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Africa Southern Africa Region, overseeing 4000+ congregations in 10 countries. He serves on the Global board of the Africa Forum on Religion and Governance. Dr Banda is highly respected as a moral and spiritual leader by successive Zambian Governments.
Dr. Banda has been actively engaged in the health sector for over 3 decades. He served as the Programmes sub-committee chair of the National HIV/AIDS/STI/TB Council (NAC) Board for 4 years. As the Chairman of the NAC Board (2007-2014), he has represented Zambia on several national delegations to the United Nations’ General Assembly Special Sessions.
Dr. Banda comes to the CCM as a specialist in HIV/AIDS social policy (PhD, Middlesex University, UK). He is renowned for hands-on community engagements and leadership on account of founding highly impactful humanitarian initiatives and HIV/AIDS interventions over the years.
Bearing a strong background as an academic scholar and researcher, he remains engaged both in the Health & Education sectors as a Senator at the Lusaka Apex Medical University where he also serves in the Bio-medical Research Ethics Committee. He was appointed Chancellor of City University of Science Technology in 2016 and assists the Trans-Africa Christian University. He contributes periodically as Adjunct Lecturer at the Oxford Centre for Religion and Public Life PhD Programme and has several research works on social justice, HIV/AIDS, human rights and community transformation.
Additionally, Dr. Banda brings a wealth of experience in strategic leadership and grant management at Board level, having previously served in several reputable organizations (9 years on the World Vision Zambia Board, 8 years on the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia Board and Founding Trustee of the Expanded Church Response). His leadership contributions to society have been recognized by various higher institutions of learning including: 2005 “Life-time Leadership Award” by Trans-Africa Christian University; 2009 Sigma Chi Pi “Diligent Christian Leader” award by Northwest University, USA; 2015 award for “achievements in Zambian Academia, outstanding contributions to various communities through practice, leadership, teaching, management and guidance” by Cavendish University, Lusaka.
